It’s no secret that kids have a whole lot of energy. They are happiest when they have the chance to run around, explore new places, and maybe make some memories along the way! And while Erie has an unlimited number of amazing kids’ activities, you really can’t beat the magic of a playground. As an Erie family photographer, I have spent a lot of time chatting with parents and helping them find the best locations around the city. If you need some new favorite playgrounds in Erie, PA, here are the ones I always recommend!
9620 Old French Road, Waterford, Pennsylvania 16441
Picnicana is a privately owned park that has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1951. As the name might suggest, this spot was opened as a picnic area for families. They have multiple playgrounds for Erie, PA kids of all ages, and there is an ADA wheelchair swing. You will also find pickleball courts, walking trails, rentable kitchens, and on-site restrooms.

Lake Erie Community Park is a large space where you can come out and experience nature firsthand. They have four walking trails, giving you plenty of spots to check out the eagles in the area. Once you are done hiking, you can wear out the rest of your Erie, PA child’s energy with a playground designed for kids ages 3-8. There are also swings and nearby benches.

The Griff Slides are my favorite location for thrill-seeking kiddos. These slides are built into the hills of the park, letting your child race through nature. A set of stairs lets them climb right back up once they reach the bottom. There are two neighboring playsets: one for bigger kids, and one for smaller kids.
933 Tate Rd, Erie, Pennsylvania 16509
Playground Paradise gives you a huge Erie, PA playground that is guaranteed to ignite your child’s sense of imagination. They have a wooden train, playhouses, and a tall cabin reaching over three levels. The playgrounds are fenced in, so you don’t have to worry about them running off whenever your back is turned.
5400 Iroquois Ave, Erie, Pennsylvania 16511
Whitford Park is a beautiful park with a day’s worth of activities. Here, you can find hiking trails, tennis and volleyball courts, and picnic tables. There is a small creek where your child can splash around on hot days. The playground has a larger section for Erie, PA kids ages 4-8 and a smaller section for toddlers.

Shades Beach Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie. This imaginative park gives your child the chance to sail the seven seas without ever leaving land! The toddler area is shaped to look like a colorful pirate ship, and the neighboring playground is perfect for older kids.
